Strawberries and Such

My little Bubba has been sick.  We’ve spent a large amount of our days in the house, just playin’, reading books, and watching movies.  Is it okay for me to say that it’s been nice not having anything we must do this week?

As great as it’s been, we both needed to breathe some fresh air.

DSC_0026Me and Sam grabbed up a friend of ours the other day and headed north to this strawberry farm to pick us a few gallons.  I wish they had a website I could attach, but I believe you can find them on Facebook.  They’re a little above Prattville.

DSC_0017  DSC_0020 DSC_0022 DSC_0033 DSC_0032The fun part is deciding what to do with our new berries.  I’m thinking about trying Ina’s strawberry preserves.  I’ve never been a canner but always thought it’d be a cool thing to learn.  I mean, what’s not to love about having your own spreads and sauces only a kitchen cabinet away from enjoyment?  Sign me up!

On our way home, I made a detour through Prattville so I could stop at Kmart.  Oh how I love me some Kmart.  Have you been lately?  I found a few gems while I was there, one being a $7.00 blouse for Yours Truly.  Raise the roof!  Their home and garden section is overflowing with fun stuff, too.  Our next set of sheets will most definitely come from there.

Okay, back to strawberries.  As a temporary fix before embarking on preserves, I made this little dip for our berries.  You probably already have a similar recipe, but this is my go-to dip for fruit.  Easy and heavenly.

DSC_0041One box powdered sugar.

One 8oz. container Cool Whip.

One 8oz. package cream cheese, softened. {Is anything that involves cream cheese not good?}

Cream the cream cheese until fluffy.  Add powdered sugar and Cool Whip.  Mix until smooth and creamy.

DSC_0046And while we’re being all homemakey, I’ll share a little project real quick.  While cleaning out some drawers the other day, I came across several pictures and paraphernalia that are dear to me.  So, I thought to myself, “Hey, I like looking at these!  Why are they stuffed in a drawer?”  I kept digging around and eventually found frames for my newfound wall decor.

And here’s what happened:

DSC_0003 I made a switcheroo!  The random mix of things better tells our story than the mirror.  I like it a lot.

DSC_0006 In case you’re wondering, those are baby pictures of me and Scott.  People always ask, “Does Sam look like either one of you when you were little?”  I guess now they’ll know: nope!

I also framed the note Scott wrote me on our wedding day and a black-and-white sketch of the place where we had our reception.  Both bring back the sweetest memories.

Hope ya have a good weekend.  I’ve got some foster updates to blog about once I’ve let it all sink in!

Love this one Em! So precious! I'm so sorry that sweet Sam-man has been sick... you're welcome to "grab" us anytime. We just stopped in Clanton for strawberries the other day. Will and I were just talking about going to pick our own. AND I just scheduled a post about canning! I'm taking it up, too! So fun, sista'
