Sam’s Grub

We’re back!  Sorry for the little sabbatical.  To say we’ve had a fun (and busy!) few weeks would be an understatement.  In fact, when I started this post, I couldn’t decide what I wanted to write about first!  I’ll take a deep breath and begin by explaining what we I’ve been up to today…

Peelin’, dicin’, steamin’, and pureein’---and makin’ Sam some grub.  I got a little sip of the make-your-own-baby food koolaid this week, and I’m pretty sure I’m addicted.  It’s really fun.  It’s really cheap. And Sam loves it!

Now, we’re not the organic, radical economist type or anything, so don’t go thinking the koolaid I drank was green.  We just really do feel making Sam’s baby food is going to save us money every week at the grocery store.  I recently spent around $30 on baby food that lasted us ten days.  You do the math.  That. Is. Insane.  But, then again, my little man likes to eat (hence the rolls in his upper thighs), so perhaps we are dealing with a different situation than most. :)  I will admit that I do like knowing that this baby food is preservative-free and only contains natural sugar, but our main enthusiasm for it is the $$$ we will hopefully save.

I mentioned in an earlier post that a sweet friend from our church let us borrow her baby food maker.  Another friend let me in on a great blog full of baby food recipes, which I tried out today and loved.  Eventually, I want to purchase invest in these---Baby Fresh food trays---for freezing and easy access.  Have any of you tried these little trays?  Love?  Hate?

In other news, we celebrated my mom’s 50th birthday on Saturday.  It was a blast, and I’m looking forward to sharing pictures and details soon!

Em, try ice cube trays. Freeze the baby food, then empty them and put it into the freezer containers....individual servings....and if Sam wants three servings, you just have to thaw three cubes!!! Hope that helps save some $$$$$, too!!!!
