Lula

Sam and me…we’ve had quite a day.  We took a little field trip this mornin’.

Sam Feet

Head Construction You see, my dad has a construction business.  He builds houses, and churches, and doctors’ offices…oh, and chicken coops, too.

Chicken Coop Meet Lula.

Lula is my dad’s chicken.  He’s raised her since she was a wee little chick and has grown very fond of her.  Me and Sam have been anxious to put a name with a face, so we meandered over to my dad’s office to meet this woman my dad speaks so sweetly about.

Gobbler Dad and Sam2 I’m not exactly sure when the chicken love began, but she’s a prized possession and even has her very own coop out back of my dad’s business---you know, next to the power tools and all.

LulaDid you know chickens lay an egg a day?  They sure do.  I haven’t actually cooked with a Lula egg yet, but we hardly ever stop by my parents’ house without my dad sending a few home with us.  Talk about organic, eh?

Lula Legs How precious are those toes?  See the egg in the background?  Lula laid that one this morning.

Eggs

Beautiful, aren’t they?!  My mom has baked with and scrambled Lula’s eggs, and she says there’s a good difference between these and the store bought.  “They aren’t slimy and runny,” she says, “but easily cracked with perfectly round, plump yolks.”

Spider2 SpiderSam seemed just as interested in this spider who had spun an amazing web next to the coop.  I managed to snap a picture before dad killed him, at a distance, of course.  Yikes!

Dad and Sam Sometimes when my dad begins talking about Lula, Scott glances over at me as if to say, “Can we get one?”

I ever so quickly turn my glance to Sam, as if to reply, “We already have a chicken.  His name is Fred.  He lays more than an egg a day.”

And that settles that.

Sam legs All in all, it was a fun day.  We finished off our field trip with a lunch date to Chick-fil-a.  I thought it was appropriate for the occasion.

Happy Monday!

This is such a precious post Emily! It made me smile! Sam is soooo adorable! Robert out of the blue Monday night said and I quote "that lil Sam Dudley is one of the cutest little boys I have ever seen!" He doesn't say that often and I have to agree with him! Such a doll!

Oh and I agree with your mom about home laid eggs! My best friend from highschools mom has chickens and the eggs are soooo much better than store bought!
