Little Bit

I started my time-to-shed-off-this-pregnancy-weight diet this week, and I'm really hungry. Maybe blogging will help take my mind off of my growling stomach? We'll see. :) I haven't been very good about updating the ol' blog---probably because I'm always in Sam's face talking or reading or being extremely silly. I sure hope he grows up thinking I'm normal. Anyway, for the three of you that read my musings (hey, mom!), here's a little 3 month update on the Samsters:

-He loves the morningtime and flashes the biggest smiles when he first wakes up. This is my favorite time of day with him.

-Every morning after I feed and dress Sam, I lay him on our ottoman while I read him a Psalm. Yesterday, I tried to tackle Psalm 119. By verse forty something, I had lost him. Dramatizing my voice and touching his mouth everytime David says "lips" and his head everytime David says "meditate" didn't seem to help, either. It's okay, though---we know Sam is a little sinner and not interested in God's Word. We are praying this changes one day.

-After three tough nights of "crying it out," Sam is officially sleeping through the night. Someone strike up the choir! We put him down every night around 8:30-9:00, and he sleeps until 7:00. He'll occassionally wake up around 3:00 A.M. but always puts himself back to sleep after a few minutes.

-I walked in the room yesterday, and Sam had rolled himself over to his side. I quickly got on the floor and preceded to cheer him on to a roll over victory, but all I got was a smile and plop as he rolled back onto his back. What an upset.

-Sam found his hands a few weeks ago and goes cross-eyed trying to look at them sometimes. Unlike most babies, he keeps his in fists most of the time, so we give each other knuckles several times a day.

-Last Sunday was the third time I've gotten called out of church to console Sam. The first time they called me to the nursery, I'm pretty sure I sprinted in a cold sweat. The second time, I power-walked. Third time, I strolled. Next time, I may act like I don't notice my beeper is going off. Just kidding. But really, everytime I get down there, Sam has convinced the entire nursery staff that he is going hungry. Please take a look at him:

Does he look like he's going hungry to you? I promise I don't give him rice cereal at night.

-Speaking of eating, Sam breastfeeds every four hours: 7:00, 11:00, 3:00, and 7:00. Sometimes I'll nurse him again right before I put him down for the night to top him off. It took a few days to train him on this eating schedule, but it has been worth it. Doing things in 3-hour increments is hard, and sliding in the extra hour helps. We love a schedule around here but try to be flexible. It's hard for me to function without having some kind of order everyday.

-I think Sam is going to like the outdoors, which makes me excited about this summer. One of my former student's mom gave me her old jogging stroller (score!), so we decided to try it out on Saturday. Going down some back roads, we walked from our house to my parents' house in Fox Hollow. About halfway there, I asked Scott, "What were we thinking?!" but Sam seemed fine and slept really good that night. I think the fresh air does something to little people.

-Hmmm, I think that's it for now. But, what's a post about Sam without a few pictures?

Well, it's lunchtime, and I've managed to distract myself from snacking. Mission accomplished! More blog posts to come...

I love that close-up in his car seat! He's so cute. Better keep all the little girls away & save him for our Anna!

You've done a great job on teaching him to eat & sleep well! It's hard work at first, but boy does it pay off!! You'll have to remind me all about it after AJR has fully functioning lungs.

We love to take walks, too. Fresh air is very good for babies (and mommies). :)
It seems that you do have more than 3 people reading. I know I enjoy reading your blog.

Emily, I am so glad I found your blog! That Sam is going to be a little heartbreaker! Those pictures are too cute. I must say, I am pretty impressed with his schedule. Caroline was eating every 1.5 to 2.0 hours when she was his age. NOT FUN. She didn't sleep until the night until I weaned her (right before her first birthday)! Props to you. I am excited to watch little Sam grow through your blog! :)
